Up Close & Personal
My Professional Profile
Let me introduce myself and my history. I studied in Melbourne under Lynda Mathis from the age of 7, then in 1984 won a scholarship to study at the Dance Factory in Melbourne. It was here I began my vocal training. My first professional engagement was in 1984 with a break dancing crew called “The Street Breakers” then with Judith Roberts and Reg Gorman as a comedian in a theatre restaurant before accepting an 18 month stint at “The Swagman Theatre Restaurant” then onto "The Palladium Theatre Restaurant" in South Melbourne. I have done classes with the renowned Alvin Ailey Contemporary Company and performed in the Broadway productions of “Anything Goes” and “42nd Street”. Also “Red Hot and Rhonda” which opened the Melbourne Crown Casino and “The Tales of Hoffman” with the Victorian State Opera. I have also performed on many TV shows and was a regular dancer on “The Bert Newton Midday show” backup singer and dancer in the 1991 Cliff Richard From a Distance Tour. My professional experience has also taken me overseas to Hawaii and New Zealand working with Dancers and Choreographers’ around the globe. I have also enjoyed dancing at the Logie Awards and many other award and convention ceremonies, including the Prime Ministers Olympic dinner fund raisers.
Since retiring from the stage I went on to study Dance in more depth. I hold an Associate Diploma in Cecchetti Ballet- Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment, MTAAD (Honours) Tap Diploma, AOTD (Honours) Jazz Diploma and a Diploma of Dance Teaching and Management from Box Hill TAFE. 2014 has seen me become a Company Director for the Teachers of Australian Academy of Dance or TAAD. I continue my studies and personal development through the amazing opportunities I find in watching others teach classes, mentoring programs through various Societies and being inspired by what the young dancers of today can achieve.
I was fortunate to be accepted as a VCE VET Arts Performance Assessor for the state of Victoria and I’m also an Examiner for all styles of dance for the TAAD society.
